Mount Sinai Cerebrovascular Stroke Center: A new template for stroke care
The Mount Sinai Queens Cerebrovascular Stroke Center is redefining the conversation about how quickly stroke patients can be treated. Caryn A. Schwab, Executive Director, Mount Sinai Queens, notes, “Every minute is precious, so our goal is to minimize the time it takes from the arrival of the patient to the time of treatment.” Watch this video to learn how the center is setting a new standard of care through more efficient logistics, training, and technology.
Thrombectomy is an innovative new treatment that was previously unavailable to the 2.4 million residents of Queens—but is now offered through the Center. You’ll hear J Mocco, MD, MS, Director, Cerebrovascular Center at Mount Sinai Health System, discuss how clots can be removed within minutes from major blood vessels of the brain via a catheter and biplane angiography. The speed of recovery is remarkable as well; patients have movement and are able to answer questions within minutes. And best of all, patients are often able to return home within a day or two, instead of being treated at a nursing facility or long-term care facility.
