Investigating the Role Macrophages Play in the Formation of Healthful Respiratory Submucosal Glands

title

New research led by Mount Sinai’s Alison May, PhD, is investigating how macrophages (immune system cells) may play a role in guiding the development of respiratory submucosal glands (SMG). By gaining insight into the development of healthful SMGs, her research could lead to a better understanding of why the glands fail to protect patients with certain diseases from infection, with a goal to develop treatments and therapeutics that could help them.
