A group of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)—endocrine-disrupting chemicals commonly dubbed "forever chemicals" due to their ability to persist in the environment—has long been thought to contribute to cancer risk. A Mount Sinai study has found evidence tying PFAS to thyroid cancer, and the team is finding pathways for prevention, especially for populations at heightened risk of exposure and developing the cancer.
