Hi. My name is Antonio Hiroshima, pediatric neurologist and a member of the pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition team here amongst Anna Travis Children's Hospital. I'm a clinical professor of pediatrics, and I see patients at the Masonic doctors faculty practice or 98 3. Well, thank you for the opportunity to talk about today to you guys. For the last 16 years, I've been offering specialty endoscopy services to Children with compass, intestinal, pancreatic and very conditions. After I completed my pediatric astrology training in Los Angeles, I proceeded to become faculty in California, and after several practicing, I realized that I have special interest in endoscopy. And there was definitely a need for the services of care of Children's very specific conditions affecting the intestines, liver and pancreas. Um, so I pursued especially training in endoscopy by doing an adult therapeutic endoscopy training at Stanford from 2000 and 4, 2000 and five. Um, when you talk about endoscopy and it's important to understand that this involves these of endoscopes, which is soft tubes with TV cameras attached to the end that allows us to be able to access through the mouth and through the rectum. Um lesions in the movement of the intestine and the liver and the pancreas, abdomen and chest. Um, aluminum procedures. Straight aluminium procedures that we perform are mostly associated with managing either to us or narrower infrastructures or in the in the intestine that can be acquired or congenital, and also management of vascular lesions. In the bow, they usually presented recurrent bleeding, Um, and also, um, management evaluation for for complication for inflammatory bowel disease. Endoscopic ultrasound, which is another one of the procedures that we do involves the use of endoscopes, have been modified to accommodate an ultrasound probe at the head of the scope. This allows us to under ultrasound guidance, be able to examine the liver, the pancreas and the areas around the intestine. Sample these areas using needles, um, and special device that allows us to take tissue samples for in a non invasive manner. Most of these spaces are treated an ambulatory basis and usually go home the same day. The procedures procedures done, um, thank your ability. Endoscopy is another, especially pursue that we're able to perform regularly here in Mount Sinai crowded Children's Hospital. The procedure involves using a special endoscope and device to be able to go through the mouth, be able to access the bankers and the biliary tree in order to be able to evaluate and treat diseases of the pancreas and the liver. This obviously includes the management of pancreatic trauma, establishing integrity, integrity of the pancreatic duct through injury, uh, and involves managing the biliary stones, biliary strictures, complications of the transplant or after surgery, and obviously, evaluation of pancreatic masses. Besides the fact that these are minimally basic procedures, and by this I mean that most people are able to come get the procedure go home the same day, in many cases leading to fast diagnosis, quicker recovery and adequate guidance and surgical care. We work very closely with the surgeons and Carrasco do procedures together, um, in general form. Our specialty is very important to have relationships with a broad spectrum of teams working on preoccupations that includes radiology, surgery, genetics, hematology, endocrinology, cardiology and the transplant team. Uh, these relations are critical to achieve optimal outcomes. I am very proud to say that we are offered able to offer these kind of services here at Kravis Children. There are very few centers across the country that can offer these procedures to Children a regular basis. Here at Mount Sinai Kravitz Children's Hospital, we're able to offer the whole spectrum of treatment, treatment, choice for Children's accomplishments, intestinal diseases and their families in that compassionate and family center environment. I am also a member of the International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus, and these are areas of specific interest to a group, and we are honored to be able to offer these services to the Children of greater greater New York metropolitan area.
