A new study featuring Mount Sinai's Amir Ahmadi, MD was published in the September 10, 2025 Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.
Findings included that the sensitivity of a CAC score >0 for detecting coronary plaque varies by age and sex. In patients under 55, a score of 0 poorly excludes plaque, while it is more reliable in older adults. Overall, CAC scores perform better in men and those on lipid-lowering therapy.
