A Study of Subtypes of Dopaminergic (DA) Neurons in the Brain Could Open a New Chapter in Treating Parkinson’s Disease

title

Mount Sinai researchers are characterizing subtypes of dopamine neurons by deploying single-cell RNA sequencing to uncover the molecular mechanisms of vulnerability and resilience, and to identify neuroprotective strategies. The work builds on recent successes in profiling more than 300,000 cells collected from postmortem brain tissue in Parkinson’s disease and control patients.
